I don't think JW is to blame since most of the public already felt that way before it came out.

Paleopterix

when people think all dinosaurs are huge gigantic lumbering monsters and hatch from eggs larger than a person.

for example: t rex is one of the largest non-sauropod dinosaurs and it's only 40 feet long (sometimes slightly larger in scales)(or very exaggerated. I'm calling you out firefly encyclopedias: t rex is not 50' long!)
yet it's often shown taller than 20' with a head the size of a bleeping elephant.

Why exactly did they decide to make a cat-sized pterosaur bigger even than Quetzalcoatlus?

I'll also ask what that pterosaur is doing with Triceratops and Corythosaurus, why there's a plesiosaur in freshwater, and why the pterosaur's clutching a mermaid. xD

Freshwater plesiosaurs are a thing IIRC (Leptocleidus I think).
As for the size, many old style depiction exagerated the size of some animals; 1,000000 milion years BC had a Ramphorhyncus as large as a Pteranodon (and a quite oversized one that picked up hot blondies).

It just seems weird to me, why don't they just pick a bigger species of pterosaur instead of oversizing a smaller one?

I guess it's because it's more scary with that long tail and short but massive head full of teeth.

There's not only leptocleidus, but also an obscure bahariyan polycotlid aswell as an elasmosaur from the neuquén river beds, apparently, Austroraptor's habitat was quite the magnificent floodplain.

They could've still used Darwinopterus or other large rhamphorhynchoids.
