What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

Ugh, the whole Spinosaurus and Sigilmassasaurus uber saga annoys me, and now even the damn skull bones are involved. Too much science for ma brain to handle. We need two complete skeletons of each (or just the one if the two are synonymous) NOW.

Never heard of a flying skeleton before, I guess there's a first for everything.

Well, strictly speaking it's not impossible, given what wolverines, ratels and similar things pull off, but certainly not to the degree of agility seen here.

At least they bothered to give it sprawling, plantigrade limbs.

This is why I've considered temporarily removing Spinosaurus from my list of favourite dinosaurs just until we can find out WTF it actually IS!

The perfect battle mount for the Skeleton Army!

Anyway, I seriously lol'd at that Primeval/Phineas and Ferb crossover.

He obviously hasn't seen Emily Willoughby's renditions of Dakotaraptor.

The wing feathers aren't even consistent with the quill knobs we have.

It's funny, I just saw a good Robert "Anti-Peters" Fabani about Dakotaraptor and how it couldn't possibly be feathered. I'm starting to think very, very, very, very, very, VERY poorly of him.

"wat would be truelly funny if the wings were just giant quils.cuz thats all we have quil knobs"

"yep but realistically smaller birds r poofier unless in very very cold climate"

Oh and they're using David Peters' Yi qi reconstruction as a reference. As game designers these guys are talented but as paleontologists or claim for accuracy they have the intelligence of an ankylosaur tail club.

(Except you UT2 senpai)

The most annoying part is that it doesn't even matter. Regardless of what bones are attributed to which is completely arbitrary until we have bones that actually overlap showing significant changes. The same remains are the best choice for reconstructing either species so until we find more bones it doesn't matter at all which are which.

The most annoying part is also the least annoying part.

Go figure.

I wish there was that much fighting and interest over non-dinosaurian animals.

I wish there wasn't any fighting to begin with.

Reminds me of how a few people totally freaked out that Dakotaraptor was a "chimera" (read: we found out that just ONE BONE was actually part of a turtle shell, what difference does that actually make in our overall picture of the animal? Not much AFAIK).
