What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

I hate that people tease me for being a palaeontology enthusiast. They say ridiculous bollocks like "Are cats dinosaurs?" or "They're just big lizards/fish/whatever stupid thing they think of" and just generally mock me. And they call Confuciusornis "Conf**kysaurus"

Oh also the fact that you can't say "Homo erectus" or any of the "Fukui-" dinosaurs without them snickering grinds my gears
Honestly I've gotten used to being teased and ridiculed for my interest in evolutionary biology and paleontology. I mean, when you go to a school where a TEACHER says that you're supporting Hitler because you were attempting to explain a behavior in the context of it being an evolutionary advantage and apparently eugenics equals evolution you start to develop a thick skin. Now it's just my friends who make fun of me for studying bio and anthro, but I make fun of them for their majors too :P

Also, reminds me, I hate it when people assume that evolution and eugenics are the same thing. Like no, they're completely different things. Evolution is a scientific theory which has significant evidence to support it and is widely accepted. Eugenics, on the other hand, is a pseudoscientific idea based on antiquated theories on race. It has no scientific backing.

The WWD (remake) gave me cancer again. The animation was good, but when they started talking, I flipped.

I didn't really get why everyone disliked the voiceovers until I listened to a short of the movie in english, have to admit they could get annoying in the long run. Thanks Italy for our dubbers I guess.

Still the only dinosaur movie that came out recently that I really liked (not counting Age of Dinosaurs).

I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

When someone posts evidence that they pretend supports them or their friend when it actually does the opposite.

*edit*
Talking about a certain JP fanboy on another site, realized that sounded like I was talking about here.

Papers that aren't free access online.

They are the scourge of literally everything that matters to an armchair paleontologist.

Why would you do that, mate?

Isn't www.reptileevolution.com considered shock spam yet?

Living animals don't need wire to hold their bones together because they have muscles and tendons to do that, something that's been missing for millions of years in dinosaur bones.

There hasn't been a single thing said by Christians Against Dinosaurs that hasn't made my brain vomit, I really hope they're just a massive attempt at trolling the scientific community.

Believe it or not, that isn't the dumbest thing Christians have done. I actually found that when searching for by far the stupidest thing ever. These two creationists wanted to prove dinosaurs weren't real (already in retarded mode) so they dug holes ~30cm deep in their garden and said "Since we didn't find any dinosaurs here, this proves dinosaurs do not exist"

I facepalmed so hard it could have been heard by a 97-year old deaf lady in Bulgaria

Yeah well Michele Bachmann isn't the most, ahem, mentally sound person to begin with. Will never understand how she got elected to any political office.

I feel like I read somewhere that Christians Against Dinosaurs is a troll account or at least is highly suspected to be one. If you want some real comedy gold/massive brain cell death that's completely serious go check out the Flat Earth Society's website, it's amazing.

Is anyone familiar with the travesty that is the Creation Museum in Kentucky? It was established by Ken Ham (I think that says a lot about it) and the displays are so inaccurate. No fluffy birdlike dinosaurs, they're all scaly tail-draggers. They're also another place that claims fossils were deposited in the Great Flood and that theropods were herbivores before the Fall of Man.

Oh god, don't remind me of that place. I've thought it might be fun to visit someday just for laughs, but frankly it's probably not wise to give them money for any reason.

The Utahraptor paper situation, at this point I think it's just been burned along with the hopes and dreams I had about it.

one must wonder why it hasn't been released, constant revisions? is it in need of peer review? did it spontaneously combust?
