Or those Velociraptor quill knobs, or the Sinornithosaurus, Microraptor, Zhenyuanlong and Tianyuraptor feathered fossil remains. |

And he doesn't know that that skeleton replica IS NOT based on any real Utahraptor but a speculated skeleton from other specie.... There are none of complete Utahraptor skeleton found other than the ones that got stuck in the pit with Hippodraco and I doubt that they have ever made any replica out of those as well. Also, Spinosaurus.... When I am about to settle down with one theory, a more believable one appear and I have to redesign an original character over and over again. Oh, goodness! When will this madness come to an end??? Someone please, uncover a comeplete skeleton of it and put my torment to an end!!! Edited by Mathius Tyra, Apr 11 2016, 08:42 AM.

I assume he already knows about those, he DID mention feathers should be added to species that show direct evidence of them. He only said that LARGER dromaeosaurids show no evidence of feathers which is why I mentioned Dakotaraptor in particular. |

I think he was lamenting the general idea rather than that pic. |

No I don't think he's implying that, I think he just thought that PB thought the image was by someone who supported the anti-feather movement. So in short, all just a convoluted misunderstanding.

I saw it to be what the public imagines of the whole thing. "T.rex can change to be more badass, but they dare make raptors fluffy? Nonsense!" |

They should be explained the reasons behind feathers, or left to their ignorance and be forgotten if they insist. Mocking them is just useless and might just make them even more stubborn. On the topic's subject, there's a temporary dinosaur exposition at our local natural history museum (it's been there since October but I'm waiting until the fish tanks section is completed too before going there), however if it's the same one I've seen in an unrelated video (same dinos, took place in another part of Tuscany right before out museum) they have quite inaccurate maniraptorans. |

![]() I can appriciate some Duane Nash's theory... But his drawing is kinda... Disturbing to some degree... Or is that the point? |

Well I think that was the point. The idea basically being that both the visual and physcially presence of an extensive covering of quills would allow it to dominate carcasses when confronting other Theropods, be other Concavenator's or Spinosaurids. That said I can't picture how such an amazing array of quills wouldn't hinder it while hunting or moving through vegetation and I ponder that generally catching prey is as important as defending it afterwards. So yeah all in all very unlikely but I still found the depiction interesting do to it's boldness (afterall all one of the main points that Nash likes to bring up is how we tend to reconstruct a lot of prehistoric animals to make them most appealing possible if not coolness in an aesthetic value) and it's speculative nature, after all modern animals do sometimes exhibit very rare structures (but yeah, in a predator those quills would be more trouble than they are worth).
