What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

@Supersaur: At least your teacher knew what a Cryptoclidus was, which I'd say is pretty impressive. Heck, I'm impressed with anyone who can even identify something as an ichthyosaur, plesiosaur, or mosasaur specifically as opposed to just a "water dinosaur".

Firstly I genuinely do have asbergers I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. Secondly I am trying to do that and lastly They where all saying it was one of the best dinosaurs in the game and I thought that was quite annoying and annoyed me so I had to point it out. But I have a small rant about 2 things (not related to any of the mess I caused) Firstly I am not quite found of their being not all that many feathered dinosaur figures. As I am a collector of these sorts of figures I just thought it was slightly annoying. Next is that their are currently 3 of the biggest sauropods in Argentina and I was wondering are they all the same species or different (Argentinasaurus, dreadnaughtus and the one with no bones found but recorded)

1) Don't call me a palaeo-hipster please, I just simply hate that 5 dinosaurs take ALL THE LIMELIGHT. Also there's nothing wrong in wanting rarer dinos to take the spotlight
2) There isn't anything wrong with the actual animals, it's that they're in everything and they're the only ones the public care about that bugs me
Sure there are a lot of people who don't know many different species of dinosaurs, but that's ok. I'd be willing to bet you don't know a lot about different kinds of cars, or species of sport fish, or the names of super models, or about old movies. Everyone has their own interests and it's important to recognize that not everyone's will overlap with your own.

If anything it's not the public to blame at all, they simply haven't been exposed because the media is too afraid of not including recognizable species.

I find children like you the most annoying thing about paleontology. You find one animal that you've never heard of before and you cling to it arbitrarily so you can lord your "knowledge of rare dinosaurs" over others. You complain constantly about how laymen don't know the names of your selection of dinosaurs that you think are obscure but really aren't even a little bit. I have worked with people who actually know obscure dinosaurs. I have friends who actually know about obscure dinosaurs. You just found a "top ten rarest dinosaurs" article and based your life around it, just like half the kids your age who like dinosaurs.
Children?! I'll have you know that I am 16, I do not watch stupid YouTube videos made in Windows Movie Maker about "Top 10 Rarest Dinosaurs", nor articles made by laymen who went on Wikipedia for 10 minutes to find 10 random "dinosaurs". I actually study palaeontology on my own, and I am very offended that you think of me as an annoying 12 year old.

Whenever I find out about a new dinosaur, I do not "cling to it arbitrarily". I actively study it, theorise on how it could have lived, what could have hunted it (which is why Emausaurus remains such a mystery to me). And the dinosaurs I select usually ARE obscure, in fact many of them don't even art of them (Apsaravis, Ambiortus, Catenoleimus, and Kinnareemimus to a lesser extent).

To conclude, I'd very much like it if you were to apologise to me for flat-out insulting me

I also have aspergers syndrome, but I don't go tossing it around as an excuse for being lazy.

People call non-dinosaur extinct reptiles dinosaurs all the time. "Dinosaur" is almost as much a vernacular term for "extinct branches of reptiles (+ birds)" as it is a proper scientific term. Plus in The Isle there is currently only one non-dinosaur in the game, so when used in context the distinction is inconsequential.

There a lot of feathered models actually. Ignoring the outdated but still feathered ones CollectA's Tyrannosaurs, Ornithomimids, and Therizinosaurs, Safari's Yutyrannus and Archaeopteryx, and even Papo's recent raptor (which is not perfect by any means, but best on the market right now) all come to mind immediately.

I don't think this is the right section, you should ask that in the questions thread. But I'm fairly certain that they aren't synonymous.

*edit*
Everything about you speaks for itself PrimevalBrony. I will not apologize for speaking my mind about your behavior over the past few months or for defending someone who I consider a friend.

Firstly Thanks for the figure suggestions! Secondly I will ask the thread. Thirdly The quezocoatlus thing was just a big misunderstanding but luckily have 3 or so minutes they seemed to somewhat agree with me and lastly the aspergers syndrome I dont get how I was being lazy? Was it because I used it as an excuse as being rude? If it was I can get quite over the top aggressive when doing stuff like that and I do have extreme anger problems. But in otherwise thanks and hope we can stop this argument! Also I quite like this thread and just hope for this argument to go and talk more about people like David peters or just random palaeontology.

Edit: Basically I'm getting out of this argument and Im sorry (hope you forgive me)

Um you are aware you did flat out insult me though right? And perhaps it would be good to point out that I have been diagnosed as also having Aspergers, and that I tend to get very mad at people who flat out insult me and the things I have actually worked towards. You think I'm a little kid who watches stupid little poorly made videos and reads crappy articles on Wired or Buzzfeed and that's where all of my "knowledge" comes from, but you couldn't be further from the truth. And what do you mean "everything about me"? What, do you think that just by my profile you can work out my whole life, my philosophies and even how I acquired my palaeontological knowledge? That, my friend, is VERY unfair, VERY unjust, and quite frankly INSULTING. Who cares if you're "speaking your mind"? I was speaking my mind about my distrust in famous dinosaurs, but did I insult anyone? No!

For months you've been bothering more than a few people. You go on about how you're apparently so well versed and yet you demonstrate that you actually aren't, at all, at every possible chance. And who'd have guessed you decide to use your conditions to justify yourself. If you're mental state is actually so fragile that you can become so enraged at someone who's barely ever spoken to you that it aggravates your condition than you should probably seek expert help. That's not intended as an insult, you'll need it to get ahead in the world.

I wanted to take AJ's advice and shut up about this, out of respect for both him and everyone else trying to use this thread, but you forced a response from me. So don't complain when my response isn't what you want it to be.

*sigh* I just want people to stop treating me like crap for once. I'm sorry for bothering people. I'd also like to point out that I actually am well versed, just not when enraged at those who insult me.

Any more additions to the debate will result in a warn as it doesn't resemble paleontology at all. Please try and remain on task.

.I know that its for fame but even more shameful is that its beside hunting a parasauralophus(Also where its feathers and more. Also very Jurassic park like)
But thankfully they have some good fossils from tarbosaurs, ammonites and coloborhynchus . Also some form of mosasaur or pliosaur . :adowable:
