I've noticed a lot of this, and it makes me sad, but I sometimes hate how open and speculative Paleontology is. As much as I love speculation, it causes a lot of tussles and fights. Things like feathers vs quills, etc. can get real nasty right away, especially online. I'm, to say the least, a casual paleo-nerd. I don't really get into the scientific journals and usually get all my info from here and other websites. Most of my dino-knowledge comes from when I would read dinosaur books as a kid, so a lot of it isn't relevant anymore, and I don't find things like encyclopedias and journals as interesting as I did when I was little. To top it off, I'm a bit of a clown, so I tend to act a little less formal about dinosaur stuff online than I could. I guess my main problem is less the debates I see, but more that I dislike how they often come to aggression. Speculation in itself is fine, but... yeah. |

Its only open due to sort of no one knowing much about it. But the fights/debates are common whether you like them or dislike them. Its pretty much the same for a lot of stuff like biology and its actually good to see someone that the opposite of palaeontology side of me Also Heliosphoros was the edginess me? Just asking Edit: By opposite I mean you are not over the top crazy fan of paleontology Edited by Supersaur, May 20 2016, 09:19 AM.

The problem is not speculation itself as it exists in several other fields of science with little to no fights over it, the problem is people taking speculation as fact. People like David Peter's come to mind. But yeah, it would nice to get a definitive answer just once. The fossil market. Whether it's China, Egypt, or Mongolia it almost always slows down actual finds and progress. |

Talking about David Peters what crazy stuff is he currently up to? Alien pterosaur hybrids or actual good stuff Probably the first one but I just want to see his great work! Sarcasm is strong here |

As long as it's justified I think anything should go. Personally, I just can't see how feathers/quills/whatever aren't ancestral to archosaurs as a whole, but I'm not delusional to the point of ignoring how different groups either lost them or experimented in strange ways.
Mostly from PrimevalBrony's comments. |

He re-jiggered the theropod phylogenetic tree a bit back, Deinocheirus is now a spinosaur and Microraptor is on the direct lineage to Tyrannosaurus, according to his methods. |

Sounds great! But no new crazy pterosaurs? But that is still funny mostly the microraptor to tyrannosaurus bit! The deinocheirus related to spinosuar was okay . Next time Concavanator is a mainraptorian and humans are reptiles! |

When you find something in the random piece of gravel in your garden, that looks like it might be a piece of fossilized ginkgo leaf or fish fin, but you're uncertain if it is a genuine fossil or some kind of pseudofossil. |

I am confused on how David peter and how his brain works. Because mammals are totally Lepidosauria a.k.a scaly reptiles. How does he do this crazy work? The only other confusing thing is people believe him. Also link to any of the new theories (the microraptor Is tyrannosaurus) |

To be fair some morons have previously suggested amphisbaenians to be synapsids, so he probably worked off that. |
