What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

To be fair some morons have previously suggested amphisbaenians to be synapsids, so he probably worked off that.
This was an april fool's joke, if I'm not mistaken. I assume you're referring to this?

Yes. It would make his assessment even sadder, though.

The moment you find out that Stegosaurus armatus is not a valid specie anymore while have been using it in art/story for age...

I thought it was ungulatus that wasn't a valid species anymore, or has this extended to armatus as well. Considering armatus is the type species IIRC, if it were found to be a separate genus I'd think it'd be the other species that'd be abolished from Stegosaurus.

Oh NVM it appears you're right. Still, not that hard IMO to go through your old literature and replace every use of armatus with stenops.

Apparently mosasaurs where coloured like killer whales or great whites. Also has anybody seen the new dimetrodon?

Apparently its spikes protruded throughout its sail.

Edit: It doesn't annoy me Basically because there is no other discussion forum about this I thought it would be a good idea to put it here. Also I love the mosasaur colouring because I like the idea of it being like a killer whale.

Seen it? :P We pretty much started the trend. It was a discussion here about the anatomy and physiology of Dimetrodon's spines that led me to produce this picture, which ended up sparking an internet sensation. (It is based on an actual study by actual palaeontologists, though.)

Nice platypus! I mean dimetrodon. But in all serious I told my English teacher about David peters... She apparently agrees with his work! So I write a satire comment on his pteranadon but. She thought I was correct. Also I found somebody who is slightly more intelligent at dinosaurs than the average human. They know the all stars, spinosaur, parasauralophus, giant cub an owl (well not dinosaur still extinct) diplodocus, apatosaurus, gallimimus and even troodon and yutyrannus. Also they know some of these had feathers! The first person other than you lot who know a bit more than the average person on palaeontology. (Note: also this person has no interest in palaeontology)
Also more dumbness https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-evidence-that-T-Rex-did-not-have-feathers
By the way on that site theirs a t-rex v spinosaur bit.. God help them.

Technically the giant Cuban owl is actually a dinosaur. :P

BTW that's a Secodontosaurus not a Dimetrodon. Also speaking of David Peters, some of the latest conclusions he's reached I find just plain baffling even by his standards. How did he become convinced that the mainstream scientific theory is that phytosaurs are the direct ancestors of pterosaurs? I think he's finally gone off the deep end, he's beyond the point of no return.

Well true about the giant Cuban owl. (I messed up  ) Second of all I didn't know that was a secondtosaurus but about David Peters that is just stupid. He needs help! Why cant he go back to raptors? Because lets be honest his pterosaurs are the worst most inaccurate work on pterosaurs

I keep expecting Peters to come out and say that all his work on pterosaurs is simply an elaborate satirical criticism of whatever flaws there may be in modern Palaeonology. It would make more sense than some of his pterosaur reconstructions.

At this point it's the only explanation aside from him being clinically insane.

I hate every time a show on dinosaurs says "Even you could name dinosaurs" that people assume that would mean they can call them "Fredasaurus rex"

Also rex is starting to become too overused as a specific name

Blatant hyperbole. I can name at most 3 or 4 dinosaurs that have the specific name rex. Which, out of over a thousand named dinosaur species, hardly strikes me as "overused".
