http://reptilis.net/2012/07/23/feathers-on-the-big-feathers-on-the-small-but-feathers-for-dinosaurs-one-and-all/ Even though he is incorrect, you have to hand it to the author for actually trying to argue against plumage on tyrannosaurs. What annoys me about this article, though, is the fact that JP fanboys are constantly using it as "evidence" for their idiocy. They claim that featherless Tyrannosaurus are now "proven," and if you speak against it they act like you're an idiot. Holy crap, I never expected to have one of my facebook comments (I'm Marcos) be included on a screenshot . On the reptilis post: I find his argument well reasoned but as stated before, I hate the fact that people are using this as an end all argument. We are, after all, in a scientific discussion and a lot of people don't want to admit that science is an ongoing process that may never conclude. At this point, there are no certain answers from either side.

I see an increasing number of conspiracy theorist flat-earthers and dinosaur deniers and it really scares me. Edited by Monolophosaurus, Jan 7 2017, 07:14 PM.

Tell them they're filthy hypocrites since they're following biased anti-intellectual theories like actual sheep. It's a shame there's no way of getting away with actual physical violence, lest it vindicate their faith. Edited by heliosphoros, Jan 7 2017, 09:36 PM.

The education department at the Field is handling the whole Tully Monster paper kinda poorly. >Posts article to the Facebook group along with a bad joke >Coworkers all find paper interesting and some make bad jokes of their own >Supervisor takes article down with the explanation that "It would confuse people and we need to wait until the museum itself catches up" >Microbe section of the Evolving Planet exhibit continues to be outdated >Entire Africa! exhibit continues to be outdated >More coworkers read paper and question why updating the information we're supposed to tell guests is a bad thing since it was updated recently anyway I get what they're trying to do since our scientists published their paper on the Tully Monster last year but it's frustrating because I feel like I'm deceiving guests. |

Oooh that's frustrating. What does the museum "catching itself up" mean? I don't really have any suggestions since I've never worked for a museum (unfortunately) but I get that misinforming guests must really suck. I'd probably get fired if I were in your place

In the case of the Field a majority of the current permanent exhibits were made in the late 80's-90's and as a result have information based on what we know in the 90's. However even though it is outdated it is incredibly hard to remove everything outdated and often is seen as wasted money in the eyes of the museum curators. It's unfortunate but it's a fact you have to live by. |

Ah. I noticed a ton of outdated stuff the last time I visited the AMNH. But isn't the purpose of a museum to educate the public? To me it seems that should be one of the first priorities, when it comes to money. Just a thought... Anyway even if the exhibits are outdated it shouldn't be that hard to give correct information to guests by mouth, no? |
