What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

Ha! I stumped someone… sorta. 'Cause we agree'd to disagree. Except I didn't agree to disagree so maybe I'm disagreeing with an agreement I was supposed to disagree with so I'm really not agreeing with a disagreement. Hmmm. I'm annoyed by the fact some Jurassic Park fanboys insist dilophosaurus had a frill. It'd be cool but… just no. I would just like to ask you one thing: If it wasn't divine intervention, how did my grandpa survive? I believe it was God, but I would like to know what YOU think.

Um...ok. Not exactly sure what that means, but I do agree about the frilled Dilophosaurus. JP fanboys are going to ruin dinosaurs if they're not stopped! xD

EDIT: I wouldn't say you "stumped" me. I just don't think we're going to get anywhere by arguing about this subject.

That better have been sarcasm! xD

Anyway, while I have no proof that there wasn't divine intervention involved, I'm just not a fan of such speculation. There are a multitude of things we do not understand about the world, and I'm sure whatever your grandfather went through can be explained by science. But you're entitled to your own beliefs, I just don't agree with them. That doesn't mean I dislike you as a person, of course. However, I do at least highly recommend you read those evolution sources we linked for you, even if you don't agree with it it doesn't hurt to have a better knowledge of it. ;)

And I don't hate you either… wheeze bag. xD I'll check out the links. I would ask this, though. What's the difference between adapting and evolving?

As far as I know, there is none. I'm pretty sure they're synonyms. ;)

So then asian carp and bigger finches wouldn't be evolving, it would be adapting, right?

I'd still say they're an evolution of sorts, just not on the scale of what people picture when they think about evolution. ;)

Well yes and no, for evolution it is the insertion of evolutionary traits such as growing sizes of special skills like humans constantly evolve every day the exist so do macaques who learn that throwing a potato in water cleans it and makes it more nutrient rich than eating it dirty and raw. That is evolution while also being adaption.

It's the same thing. So one cannot be if the other isn't. Different words, same meaning. You can't say something is adapting while it isn't evolving. :P

Besides, that Protoceratops illustration was by an actual paleo-artist! And no offence, but I think it's safe to assume that he knows considerably more about dinosaur anatomy than you.

So what's my pet peeve with paleontology, you might ask? My answer is almost all large dinosaurs being depicted as fluffballs, so Tyrannosaurus, Megalosaurus, Sinoceratops, and such dinosaurs of similar sizes and climates.
Sick 'em, Gorsh! xD

Fluffballs aren't plausible unless we talk about depicting actual avians, so not here. :P You guys demonize me too much.

I'm not a JP fanboy! I just don't like it when people have such a mean attitude towards the concept of scales on dinosaurs. So some dinosaurs were feathered, yes, but that doesn't mean ALL OF THEM were just because some of them were. Scaled dinosaurs don't deserve to be called "Scaly freaks" just the idea of a dinosaur that lacked feathers or quills MIGHT become outdated in the future! I normally agree that people who don't agree with scales don't act as stupid and immature as feather haters, but this is one case where I can point my finger and say this is a case of obvious hating on scales.

You are saying that a Crylophosaurus is scaly when in reality the poor thing would freeze to death in its habitat.
