i'm annoyed by the fact prehistoric stuff is still seens as kids only stuff. and that because it's always proposed like that most of the times, with more serious representations lying in the shadow ... |

Actually no, if you look on art websites there can be alot of this. Things like dragon and dog morphs, or a lion with a shaved mane or a lion with horns. People often make up mythical animals or characters with living mammals. But for some reason with dinosaurs no one is allowed to add a little mythical into them because that makes them wrong. What annoys me about paleontology is that it's nitpicky and you say you want people interested and to stop seeing it as children's stuff when you really don't. Everyone in the world is not going to be interested in learning 5-6 syllable names and looking at rocks and putting bones back together. But you could at least let people watch dinosaur themed cinema without being critical of everything. I used to watch things like Walking With Dinosaurs and Jurassic Park but I stopped because wherever I went, to watch it. There was someone who liked dinosaurs literally screaming themselves red in the face because the animal wasn't being "shown" properly. I think you would get alot further letting people actually enjoy cinema or seeing dinosaurs as they want to and gain a real interest in them and discover there is a lot more to the field and a lot more to dinosaurs and prehistoric life overall, that's just my two cents. |

Well, if those many artists who draw fantasy animals tried to publish their purple horned flying cheetah in a book about actual cheetahs or depicted wolves with blue hair and dragon wings in a documentary about North American wildlife, people (including myself) would be rather upset, no? It's the same thing. Certainly people can draw dinosaurs however they want for personal reasons. But for documentaries, books, educational media, they really should be accurately depicted. |

I'm not sure if you understood my sentence that you quoted. I was talking solely about scientific restorations, which should be accurate and up-to date. Fantasy animals don't ever count as scientific restorations, unless for the purpose of fantasy worlds, and we do live in very real world, where people think depicting real animals however they want, even if it's wrong, is right. The hypocrisy about direct and indirect evidence. For dinosaur integument direct evidence is always for some paleolovers, while all other extinct animals don't need it at all. |

1. The fact that during eleven years of schooling, I have only been able to do science classes relating to palaeontology once and when we do it, I'm like the only person enjoying it. Meanwhile, my friend beside me is complaining that it's not really biology. 2. Certain dinosaurs and/or other prehistoric animals which are overly popular, while certain dinosaurs and/or other prehistoric animals are hardly known at all. Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, Brachiosaurus etc. But then again, it's a similar problem with living animals too I suppose. 3. The fact that many palaeo-fans I've seen get upset that others people don't know the names of lesser-known dinosaurs like <insert long latin name>. Yes, I understand you might want someone to be able to talk to about dinosaurs at school or something but not everyone is interested in the same things as you are and there ARE some people who still have an interest in dinosaurs but don't know every name or every detail (i.e. Me xD) 4. The line people put in their sigs that says "99% of people don't like extinct animals. If you're part of the 1% who likes extinct animals, put this in your signature!" Since when were 99% on the population hating on extinct animals and where did they find this information? |

THE LAST ONE. However, some people I know claim to be real dino-fans and don't know how to spell Tyrannosaurus properly. I mean, if you don't know how to write things like Majungasaurus, Carcharodontosaurus or stuff like this, it's okay, but Tyrannosaurus ? |

Well, how lonely one gets when you're the only one who's interested in this field... In my case, there's practically no one to talk to about this stuff IRL. -_- |

Mine for me. 1. When people do not even know what a Tyrannosaurus Rex is..... I mean really I know they might care about dinosaurs but that is the most famous dinosaur. 2. When I say that a dinosaur is called Diabloceratops and then I say it's related to a Triceratops then they say no, its another random animal species not even a dinosaur, EX. A fish! A bloody fish! 3. How people think Tyrannosaurus is the best and most bad dog curd in the universe when it was not even on the same level as they think. (I mean that it is not the best and most bad, ex alot of other large theropods or herbivores are just the same as it.) 4. When people come up with harebrained theories in which Dinosaur X does blah blah blah when it most likely did not do that. I mean if they think about it then test it and get their result then go ahead lets prove them wrong, however when they do not do that and make it so they seem more idiotic for coming up with that theory and not testing it out. 5. People who say Pterosaurs and Marine reptiles are freaking dinosaurs when those groups went off the line of the main archosaur branch millions of years and so many differences in shape. |

As I said before, in Brazil countless times have I had to cope with someone saying Dinosaurus Rex, Pterodaptyl, Spikesaurus (Spinosaurus) and Velocirápido (Means Velocifast). Man it's just plain annoying. Edited by extremos, Sep 29 2013, 10:59 AM.

THANKS SO FREAKING MUCH! For Latin, we have this task, we'll have to persuade an audience (our class) to show that we've mastered oratory skills and such. I had so much trouble finding a subject. I have one now, I am going to persuade my class about the awesomness of dinosaurs. So, anyone sending me a short list of the weirdest dinosaurs by PM...that would be awesome
