What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

Though the fact that they chose to name it after Professor Challenger is pretty awesome. xD

I'm annoyed by some of the scientific names that were chosen for various fossil animals, which in many cases I find rather poorly thought-out. For example, Sordes pilosus means "hairy scum" in Latin. What did the people who discovered this small (and quite adowable) late Jurassic pterosaur have against it to give it such a hateful name?
Actually, it mean filthy hair. It was a translation error, the original name meaning hairy demon, which, in my opinion, is rather cool.

Considering that pic is meant to mock what the artist insists on calling "feather fanboys", I think it's fine to go in this topic. I've known 3-year-old Barney lovers more accepting of scientifically accurate portrayals of dinosaurs than these fanboys.

To change the subject, I'm annoyed (well, more confused than annoyed really) by the bizarre association of the Mesozoic with volcanic activity. Where does it even come from?

As far as I know, it was higher in Cretaceous ;) It was in fact volcanic activity, deccan traps more precisely, which had much greater impact on dinosaur extinction than the asteroid.

Oh, I knew that. I just meant the fact that the entire Mesozoic is often depicted as consisting predominantly of flat, barren landscapes dotted with ever-erupting volcanoes.

EDIT: More from the kid that SSM posted about. Here's another one of his pictures meant to lampoon those with a greater quantity of functional neurons than him:

Read some of his comments while you're at it, they're absolutely abhorrent.

Not sure if plain ignorance or bad trolling, to be honest.

Also thought about trolling, but he seems trying to find "reliable", creationist sources to prove his "theories", so it seems he is most probably incredibly brainwashed.Look at these:

And everyone wanting most briliant parts:

His discussion with poor Daisaspy is epic.Continuation is even better:

When I was trying to persuade him he spewed a ton of bull. He said feathered dinosaurs only come from China and it is a scam/hoax by the chinese government. Right, because that explains the Ornithomimus skeletons from Alberta that were preserved with feather imprints?

I'd just give up on him. He's a bit of a troll and not worth our time. He can spew bulls**t all he likes but as long as he keeps his opinion well away from the scientific community I'd say leave him alone

Pick a god and pray!

Cyborg, I've been told at ZTHR that Pathlight was hacked and made to look like a troll.

About featherhead dinosaurs, it's a disgrace to feathers and quills. Even though I do think scientifically accurate dinosaurs wouldn't be good for the JP films, this is just ridiculous!
