Well, I like more original names and this one is rather original.TBH I'm tired of simple and uncreative names like "fast thief" or "egg thief".

what Robbie said. it's an animal, not a freak from an anime !
just wondering, did they give it that name so its discovery wouldn't be shadowed by the larger Siats ?

I don't think that's how nomenclature works, Robbie.

Well, I actually don't really care how dinosaurs are named. However if you want its name to be changed, what would your suggestion be ?

The problem is that there are already loads of named creatures that have to be taken into consideration, then you have the problem that virtually any name that describes the shape of it are already taken. So you end up naming it after a person, a place or some weird brain poop. There's hardly anything you can do against it.

At least Lythronax sounds cool.

As I said in another topic, the absolute worst thing about dinosaurs and dinosaur culture is the sensationalist bull honkey you hear in the news. It's always "Triceratops Didn't Exist" here and "T. rex was a wimp" there and after a while you just get sick of it. Most of the time, these articles are disgustingly innacurate and treat dinosaurs like pop-culture toys and not the wild beasts they once were. So if I hear one more article about how feathers made dromaeosaurs look like hens, I'm going to run myself under a diesel engine.

So all of my complaints can be summarized with this clip.

As for Lythronax, I think it was just the paleontologists having fun and what's wrong with having fun?

I remember this one idiotic comment on some site claiming that scientists have made dinosaurs "less cool" than they used to be, citing examples such as raptors having feathers (something that most paleo-lovers agree makes them MORE cool), Triceratops never having existed (this has already been discussed), and "pterodactyls" not being dinosaurs (which is NOT new research, paleontologists have always known this is the case). Furthermore, it's not a paleontologist's job to make dinosaurs seem cool, but to provide insight into how these animals lived. The scientific community really doesn't give a damn if their finds ruin the childhood of some butthurt internet user.
