What annoys you about paleontology?; Rant on about moronic theories, complaints, or just animals that annoy you.

It is actually more commonly thought nowadays that the "quill knobs" of Concavenator were actually muscle anchors, but even so that article is ridiculous. :P

The amount of stupid in these pics is painful to read. Excellent post for the topic. I hate it. Posted Image

Wait...we have a grumpy cat emote on this site? Because if so, I've wasted a lot of precious time not using it. :P

The talk about "missing links" is pretty much annoying. Every damn thing that we find in the form of a fossil is, in its own way, a transitional fossil. It is undoubtely different from its ancestors and it is more than certain than its descendants (provided that it had them) would also be different, and those that survived would go through the natural selection and, eventually, participate in evolution. I don't know what people expect the fossils to yield. A lemur with human head?

I think "missing link" just refers to the more "extreme" transitional fossils, like fish into land animals (Tiktaalik), dinosaurs into birds (Archaeopteryx), lesser primates into hominids (Australopithecus) etc.

Still a term I'm not overly fond of.

dinosaurs into birds (Archaeopteryx)
Archaeopteryx isn't even a missing link, it's just a pretty normal dinosaur found there by chance.

Although this is not paleontology, it is terribly disturbing and idiotic both at once, and involves a dinosaur video-game, so it's acceptable to post this here.

I dare you to read the entire description.........
The link.........
I don't see why you think it's so disturbing.

GO AWAY BARNEH!!!!!! No one likez yeh!

Turning to a more on-topic discussion: the fact that one of the first results for "archaeopteryx" popping up on Google is an old article claiming the type fossil is a fake. Do I really want this to be one of the first results when I look up a flying dinosaur from the Jurassic of Europe, especially considering all claims of fraud regarding Archie have been disproven years ago?

"Velociraptor model"
It is now come forth that Barney is capable of infecting dinosaurs and modifying them to become his mindless drones.

This is just stage 2 of the infection process.

That when I mention titanosaurs, most people think I'm talking about the kaiju Titanosaurus rather than the sauropod group. I'll admit to being a mild kaiju fan, but still.
