God how I love when they're based off modern birds.

Pattern and face look nice, but the dark feathers on the back look more like fish scales than real feathers to me ...

I think, that I am the only person, who doesn't like dinosaur reconstructions, who are based of modern birds xD ( besides some exceptions )

I like the use of modern bird colorations as long as it isn't copy paste, and looks natural
I prefer original color patterns because we have such a small representative of their colors and patters that what we know cannot possibly be even close to the spectrum of colors and unique patterns that were displayed by dinosaurs as a collective, so...better to be original than to repeat an living animals coloration

Are those divine pieces of art by our lord and savior Mark Witton by any chance?

Warrahs and thylacines. Don't know if that counts as palaeoart, or whatever, but still disgustingly cute.

They are. Just looked on his blog- He's posted the commisions he did at the beginning of the year, which is why there's so many at once.

Deinonychus is my favourite out of them, though I didn't even see the Talenkauen until it was pointed out.

Is this a repainted WWD Tapejara? They look almost identical. I dislike extinct animals drawn with the colour and pattern of a specific extant species, it seems really lazy. Similarities and convergence can do a lot, but the exact same pattern and colour is absurd.

John Conway, of course. Witton has a great knowledge of extinct animals, but so does Conway, and I think Conway is a professional artist, rather than a hobby artist.
