Plus I think it's based on a series of fossilized animal trackways (including several of Australopithecus) that were preserved by volcanic ash IIRC, suggesting there actually WAS a volcano in the environment. :P

holy moly macaroni! that is the best tyrannosaurid reconstruction i ever seen! is it a T.rex?

i also really like the idea of predators adopting herbivores, it is not a very rare incident in extant animals like lions and leopards, so who can say id didn't happen with dinosaur? although i' not sure if the brain of reptiles is as good as felines

Well some birds are known to have strong maternal instincts and will take care of chicks even if they belong to other species (afterall cuckoos base their survival on this).
Even female gators will sometimes protect baby turtles when they are guarding their nest.
