The amazingly natural feel of this piece just always get to me when I see it. It's by far one of the pieces I like the most and it has been one my favourites for a very long while.

I know: I just don't like it because it doesn't look like a real, convincing animal to me. But to each his own.

This painting is of a Wannanosaurus (an early pachycephalosaur) by Wayne Barlowe for the An Alphabet of Dinosaurs book from 1995. I used to read that book a lot as a kid and this painting was one of my favorites! Despite a couple inaccuracies that are to be expected from a dinosaur book in the mid 90s, this image is one of my favorites due to how well the Wannanosaurus seems to blend into its (possibly) mountainous environment. Considering how most fossils come from lowland environments, its a shame that we know so little about the animals that would have lived in mountains, highlands, etc.

Oh snap, BARLOWE!

His dinosaurs are epic. Even more amazing when you realise that he specialises in sci-fi/fantasy stuff. Darwin IV, Pandora and Pacific Kaiju being notable stuff he worked on.

I never managed to get my hands on the Darwin IV book, sadly.

Not to mention it actually looks like a real animal. Such realistic depictions are hard enough to find today, let alone in the mid-90's.
