That's not the recon, that's probably just saying no hotlinking or something (I can't read it)

Rat snake is love... Rat snake is life

I think it's broken image. Star probably was using a picture from an Asian image uploader site.

Yes it was, thanks. I forgot that PNSO likes to swap out images to prevent hotlinking.

I don't normally like these stock 3D model pictures, but I thought this one was really cool.

Those WWD pics are awesome (though I'm not really a fan of the bright red feathers on the accurate Allosaurus, normally I'd be fine with a feathered Allo but they're a bit grating to the eyes on that particular pic IMO).

T. rex, by Duane Nash of Antediluvian Salad:

His reasoning for why T. rex may have looked like this is quite interesting, and I've always had a thing for dinosaur reconstructions that look ugly in a plausible way.

Highly speculative but very interesting, I can't recall where* but I had already seen some reasoning and reconstructions comparing the possible extent of "lips" in Tyrannosaurus rex with that one mastiff' and similar dogs.

That said it does showcase one of my biggest reserves with Duane Nash works: He compares Non-Avian Dinosaurs and mammals way too often, I mean I actually think he is onto something at times by doing it most notably the recent blog entries on Spinosaurus punting underwater locomotion, because a)Crocodiles do it too and b)Spinosaurus has a very unique combination of traits that AFAIK are never found put together in aquatic birds, starting by the fact that is a lot more massive than any aquatic avian bird ever to exist. But Dinosaurs are still very far removed from mammals and even if they did have similar niches I doubt we would found such a degree of convergent evolution.

Kinda of worried that he seems to take some advice from someone who doesn't really deserve to be taken serious on the DA comment section...

True, but I still think his argument may generally be going in the right direction.

Honestly I think this is one his less great theories. I loved the opening bit about the stereotypical Tyrannosaurus representing our stereotypes of steel chinned men, but I find his reasoning behind the enlarged lips to be a stretch.

The only advantages they present over "lizard" (or honestly you could just say "any carnivore besides a domestic canine") lips are increased sensory range and a more impressive teeth baring display. But this isn't taking into account the feeding mechanisms of theropods being so different from dogs. Dogs chew their food before swallowing, they don't bite down and tear off pieces to swallow (which would be made needlessly difficult with lips as large as suggested). Baring teeth is also a behavior exclusive to mammals, not practiced by any modern archosaurs. A lot of his comparisons are heavily reliant on removing birds from the equation in order to forcefully validate his comparison to mammals. Even the mammals he references have far less extensive lips than his reconstructions have (aside from aforementioned canines).
