THIS IS NOW OFFICIALLY THE BEST TAPINOCEPHALIAN RECONSTRUCTION ON THE INTERNET.

Who's the artist? I want to shake his hand.

It's indeed magnificent, but I'm still wondering what specific genus it's intended to represent.

Helicoprion?

Finally someone has given Helicoprion (if it is that) a Chimaeriforme-like appearance, instead of making it look like a generic shark.

Well they are both Holocephali, so they should still have a more chimera-like, than shark-like appearance.

I was being overdramatically sarcastic. :P The only difference between the two genera is some differences in shape and angle of teeth, which you can't tell from the picture.

Also I've been meaning to draw a Chimaera Helicoprion for a while now. Never got around to it.

While I do prefer this representation of Helicoprion over the usual very lamniformid ones I do think that a very Chimera like body plan might be just as unplausible. Most evidence seem to point out that Helicoprion were pelagic predators that probably hunted active prey like squids, a chimera like bauplan seems very unsuitable for such a lifestyle. So while I deffinitivelly agree with some of the characteristics showed like the gill morphology and the distribution of the fins I think a very heteromorphic caudal fluke and very large ventral fins might not had been so likely.

Agreed, however I still think the reconstruction is fantastic simply on account of its originality.
