This idea entertains me WAY more than it really should. BUT LOOK! IT THINKS IT'S PEOPLE! Edit: Perhaps I should leave some links (by some, I mean a lot) as tax to keep myself on topic. And yes, links, to prevent needless scrolling: http://osmatar.deviantart.com/art/Somewhat-Speculative-Stegosaurus-641180102?q=PWNZ3R-Dragon%2F2290655&qo=6 http://pre03.deviantart.net/80d4/th/pre/f/2016/166/e/b/psilopterus_by_midiaou-da6c5on.png http://pre00.deviantart.net/939d/th/pre/f/2016/140/5/2/leaellynasaura_amicagraphica__southern_woolly_fowl_by_midiaou-da362pi.jpg http://pre06.deviantart.net/8e69/th/pre/f/2016/210/1/f/the_ginkgo_mimics_by_midiaou-dabv33d.png http://img10.deviantart.net/c985/i/2016/204/4/7/megaraptora_2016_so_far_by_plastospleen-daaxxh7.png http://img07.deviantart.net/520e/i/2016/200/f/e/shinya_s_gualichu_by_plastospleen-daafeg6.png http://pre03.deviantart.net/4d96/th/pre/f/2016/229/f/2/flaming_cliffs_female_oviraptor_by_midiaou-dae969c.png http://pre04.deviantart.net/0045/th/pre/f/2016/268/2/f/to_the_flesh_by_midiaou-daiwa6d.png http://pre15.deviantart.net/7155/th/pre/f/2016/268/6/d/didelphodon_by_midiaou-daiwa6n.png http://pre04.deviantart.net/e228/th/pre/i/2016/245/4/a/olorotitan_by_paleoguy-dag8e0o.jpg http://pre15.deviantart.net/9543/th/pre/f/2016/121/c/d/the_swamp_king_s_menu_by_randomdinos-da0w2ex.png http://img02.deviantart.net/9f2f/i/2016/238/2/9/walk_don_t_liliensternus_by_sir_giga-dafde7y.jpg http://pre15.deviantart.net/c8fb/th/pre/i/2014/114/c/8/woolly_rhinos_by_balcsika-d7fsx41.jpg http://img01.deviantart.net/339b/i/2016/213/b/4/psittacosaurus_sibiricus__by_olorotitan-dac6wnl.jpg http://img00.deviantart.net/1a5b/i/2016/309/9/1/psittacosaurus_sp___smf_r_4970__by_olorotitan-dan6b7a.jpg http://img03.deviantart.net/f06d/i/2016/253/1/a/wip_siats_by_sir_giga-dah4c5x.jpg http://img13.deviantart.net/e3a0/i/2016/295/5/9/dwarfed_by_termites_by_sir_giga-daluc4m.jpg Edited by Incinerox, Nov 16 2016, 07:36 AM.

May I ask what species this is? The head shape doesn't seem familiar. |

That nostril concerns me, and the repeated texture just infront of the eye |

Can't vouch for any repeating texture, but the nostril itself is no different to the source:

I've never understood how having unsealed nostrils like that can possibly help. It functionally only has one at the back of all that space. How's it supposed to track the direction of a scent? |

I'm not sure but new world vultures are the ones that rely heavily on scent so it must work. Perhaps it maximizes the surface area that can detect scents and past a certain degree of sensitivity separation is not worth it. |

Maybe it's related to the fact it can cover greater surfaces more efficiently by flying, and so it can afford a less direction-accurate organ ? IDK just a wild guess thrown there |

I suppose it is due to the fact that they start with very small smell concentrations where directional smelling would not work anyway, and they actually figure out the direction of the smell by flying wide circles and measuring the intensity change along the circle. It costs no virtually energy for them to do so. So I don't think it makes sense to have no separation in a non-avian theropod. |
