They are a more up to date, albeit highly speculative, restoration of these:

Don't get me wrong, i love fluffy and all white Laaellynasauras... but that looks ridiculous imo.

I prefer this restoration :P

It does look quite ridiculous, but then again,

THIS:

LOOKS LIKE THIS:

Realistic and really weird looking are not mutually exclusive, in fact, more often than not, they are one and the same.

So i can't express my opinion that a restoration looks ridiculous?

I don't care if it is "accurate" or realistic, i don't like it. Deal with it.

I prefer cute-looking dinosaurs. I'll quote the authors here :

"We reconstructed Laellynasaura as a rotund furball that scurried peacefully about in the polar forests of Australia's past. We imagined its long tail as a thin, signalling "flagpole" that helped it identify and keep close to members of its herd. No doubt some people will find this reconstruction preposterous, and perhaps they will be right. However, we felt that not enough dinosaurs were reconstructed as "cute" beasts, whereas in nature, polar animals can look quite pulchritudinous under layers of fat, muscle and other insulation."

I think the point was to make Laellynasaura some kind of lemming. Trisdino, I think this would be more accurate as an example :

EDIT : Zoocrazy, of course you can say you don't like it :P We're just arguing about its realism there.

Accuracy always trumps any form of artistic licence, though in this case, they are in line with accuracy, and as such, can speculate.

Agg you guys are impossible...

I'm not complaining about being inacurate, un-realistic or not having a fundament behind why he decide to represent it like that.

I just don't PERSONALLY like that restoration. You don't need to give me a thousand explanaitions of why it could be possible for that animal to look like that, because that is not what i'm criticizing.

I just don't like it. You paleo fans really get to my nerves sometimes.

I can fully understand that you do not think it looks good, but again, it is an animal, not an object, so your personal opinion really does not matter. I could say that I did not like how a rabbit looks... but it is still a rabbit, the rabbit does not care, it is just a rabbit. I understand how you can find it silly, of course I do, it looks utterly insane, I am just saying that when it comes to animals, an animal is just what an animal is, whether you like it or not really does not matter, just as whether you like the shape of somebodies nose does not matter. Paleoart is in fact art, but it is only the quality of the art itself, and the accuracy of the portrayed animals, that can be criticized, the actual animal in question is, if accurate, really not up for reviewing, it is what it is.

I think it's better we stop the debate now. After all, it's entirely speculative and some of us prefer rotund furballs and some of us prefer more elegant dinosaurs. Both are correct from a scientific point of view.

I just think the concept of reviewing an animal is really silly, I mean, who walks up to a zebra and says "you know what? I do not like it, I think the stripes are too large, its ears not big enough, and I just wish it had some more powerful legs"

Except that we know 100 % what a zebra looks like.
We'll never get such level of knowledge on dinos, and even if a reconstruction is plausible and accurate, it will still be open to critics like that. Afterall I am free not to like Orange-painted Spinosaurus even if they are accurate.
