It may be only a hypothesis for now, but I still think it's almost certainly correct since I can't picture any other niche that Spinosaurus could be suited to.

Especially since the floodplain environment of the Sahara 97 million years ago is perfect for such a niche.

About that, I found something about that too on the bristly Spino page of DA:

BTW, just noticed that the skeletal seen in one of the pics doesn't have the triangular crest on the snout which was often depicted.

Someone should make a graphic showing the progresion of our conception of Spinosaurus throught the years, from the retrosaur look to the most up-to-date reconstruction. I think is one of the dinosaurs that have changed the most and it would pretty awesome to see that. I would make it myself if i had the time xD

Ironically some old reconstructions depicted it with short legs already :P

That would make it even more awesome to see all the progression and changes through the decades. Whene ever i get time to draw i will try to make this xD It will be fun.

That reminds me of a series of drawing I made, where i portrayed popular dinos both in old and up to date reconstruction.
Guess I'll have to remake the spino one ...

I wouldn't until the remains get published. IIRC, this new Spino has legs that are comparable in size (Not just length) to those of Ceratosaurus.

yes they are comparable to ceratosaurus, but why would that matter?
it would have poor balance and be very slow and awkward on land, but again, why would that matter?

You know, if Spinosaurus was the least aquatic Spinosaur tested* (though I have little doubt Suchomimus was even less aquatic based on its proportions, it was not tested thought), I wonder how stubby the legs of Siamosaurus, the most aquatic Spinosaur tested, were, and how that would change its appearance from what little we know?

*Tested via Isotopes in the teeth, IIRC.

Well I got more spec on Spino, but since I don't want to clog this topic with it maybe we shall make a new one specifically for it ?
