That's sick...I just looked it up. A canary here costs between 11-20 euros (okay a bit more expensive than I expected), that's like 30$...Isn't it cheaper to buy one here and ship it to the US? I'd think so... Budgies are equally expensive and zebra finches...I've found some for 1€, but I don't think that's from a good breeder. I think 8 - 15€ is a good average. |

None of my prices are from breeders (I did buy from pet shops), but for typical breeds (not fancy sorts, though) petshops are often more expensive. I couldn't find any finch breeders, though, so it was my best option. |

It was mostly the canaries I was talking about, from which the price was directly from a pet shop website. I mean, +100$ is quite shocking, that's almost one fifth of my dog

These aren't even sold here, but it's like 1000-1500 € here to buy a Galah, an African Grey, an Amazon or a Cockatoo ![]() I don't even want to imagine how much a macaw would cost. |

Given they end up in the sewers, I'm not sure it's a good idea

I've never actually seen a macaw for sale, but our local shop has a resident bird who belongs to the owner. I think it's a scarlet. Stores here don't really sell anything bigger than conures because they've realized there's not really much market and the birds just stay in-shop forever. |

I have seen that in america, yes. but here it's very strict you get asked for almost everything before buying them, And here I have never heard of them ending up in sewers we do get parrots here( but common ones)

Most shops here just give you anything you ask for, which is bad. -- The other day I had to help the shop employees who had mixed up all of their finches and couldn't tell them apart. Because white society finches look so much like zebra finches... |
