Thank you for the set, Azrael!

Two long, low cages stuck at different levels completely blocking a corner of my room never really looked good so today I decided to do a bit of work and *gasp* chop up my cages a bit to combine them into one double-size cage, better for the birds, who have to share now but also get double the flight space, and better for the room aesthetic and my space. While I was at it I cut out the metal grates on the bottom because they're ugly and hard to clean. The two cages are currently attached with thin wire, but I plan to snip these out and replace them with white zipties within a few days because the wire will rust eventually (but I had no zipties currently and wanted a project today anyway).

Everyone is getting along well so far, with plenty of room to negate any conflicts. I might have to take out the nests eventually though because Flurry keeps claiming them and chasing away the others who try to go in (her intimidation doesn't work well on the Javas double her size though).

The javas were just allowed to fly in the room while I was working because they were easier to just let fly out the door then to catch and put into the holding cage with the more docile societies. What did they do while I was working? Sat on top of the cages and watched everything I was doing. :3

You will respect my authoratah.

I like the set up so much, I hope when I go flatting I'll be able to take budgies and I'll do the same thing as you and put fake leaves in the cage :)

*Is jelly*

*Console myself, cuz not so long my new minion will arrive.*

*And I will send it to USA, slither up to Sheater's house and snatch those Javas for me. >:) *

Nice improvement on the cage! Those Javas are really tame! Don't they struggle to escape when you try to put them back into the cage?

They go back into their cages by themselves. I can hasten it by waving them away from wherever they are. They'll take flight and go back in then. As pet birds raised in captivity, they're used to cages (or are now, they took a while to adapt because I think they were aviary-bred) and consider them a safe place and their "home base", so to speak.

They're unfortunately not really tame at all, I cannot hold or even pet them and if I have to catch them they bite a lot. On their own terms outside the cage, though, they're still very curious of me. Maybe over time they'll get a bit better. I hope they're a pair and one day I can breed them (NOT in this community cage of course) and possibly hand-raise a chick or two, because hand-raised java sparrows become extremely tame and friendly.

I did remove the nests because Flurry's a nutcase and they're just going to drive her to try to keep breeding. I've been tossing eggs every day already. I kept the one in the center but turned it upside down so they can still nestle in the greenery on top of it but not really "nest" in it or be able to lay eggs in it.

I really like how you have all the fake greenery around the cage, it makes it look great!

One thing though. Be careful with that treat holder thing.

Im not sure how much finches are chewers, but Storm destroyed the one I had.I took it out because, assuming its the same brand, it had wire entwined around itself. This wire had a rather thing coating of what seemed to be felt... Anyways, Storm was able to take off the coating as easy as shelling a seed, sand I didnt like her chewing on possibly rusty wire, so I took it out.

Just look what she did!

Finches don't chew even a bit, they've had that since November, no damage. But thanks. :)

I must say this idea didn't work at all because one society, crazy as sh*t Flurry hates both Javas and chases them relentlessly and the gray Java is mean and likes to push the other societies around even though they got along fine when housed together before. So I slipped a divider in the cages again.

I think I'll just get another white cage for the Javas, the big cage is too pretty to take apart again so I will probably use it just for the societies. I think I'm going to sell a couple and just keep my pair and their one son too, but maybe I can let them breed again then. I've found a market for the chicks with a local store, and it's really fun to let them breed if I know I can find a place for the chicks. :D
