I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

lovely finches you have

also per your previous conversation;
shrikes are about the same size as starlings, and while certainly aggressive, I've never known them to infiltrate cages, or target birds for that matter
I've seen their handiwork first hand (on vacation, we don't get them here) lizards and a small snake stabbed onto barbed wire fences and thorn bushes

Thank you for the set, Azrael!

I bought a new finch (yes, another ) today and will be taking him back with my to my grandma's this evening to introduce to more freedom than he's ever seen before in the bird kitchen. He's a ridiculously frumpy, derpy-looking crested society with fluffy ruffles on his head that make him look like he got in a fight with a hairdresser and lost (in as cute a way as possible). I've named him Albert, because his messy 'hair' reminds me of Albert Einstein. I rather needed an unrelated male because my two now are related to half of the females and now they can all pair up without inbreeding.

Though the one female will probably still be only interested in her brother (who is then only interested in his mom [who is most interested in another female and indifferent to all the males] [[birds are odd]]).

I'll take a pic of him tomorrow.

Here's Albert. He's turned out to be a hyperactive crazy fight-picking hen stealer who barely can get along with other birds in a huge room and would probably drive them mad in a closed cage, but he's cute! (sorta, in a homely way). And he sings like a canary to make up for it (literally, he has a very unusual song for a species that normally has a rather unmelodious one, I guess he needed something to make up for his physical appearance.

Apollo (center): Pssst... Lizzie, don't I look good now compared to this thing?
Lizzie: Yes, do we even know what that thing is?

Daww...! I think Albert is cute! Do you agree with me, Spitfire?

Spitfire: *Lick jaws*

Oh, well... Never mind...Btw, is crested society a kind of morph or it's just the charactor of certain individual?

lol. Crested societies are a breed, sort of. it's just one gene which causes the trait so any color bird can have it. Albert is a very pathetic example of one, though. xD

Another bird - and for now, the final I plan to obtain - joins the ranks! Steve is a 6 month old adolescent singing canary - with a floppy hairdo of feathers just like Albert. xD Miraculously, I found him for only 50 dollars including his very nice cage, from an internet classified ad. He was raised in a home, and is subsequently very tame and sweet. He does not sing yet as he's too young, but he's very pretty - and once he's a bit more used to me and the area, he's gonna be shocked to be allowed to fly free in the bird room and suddenly have so much freedom.

He cost me exactly 170 dollars less than he would have were he bought in a pet store - and that includes a 50 dollar value cage.

He is cute.

I'm still surprised at how expensive canaries are. They are such common pet birds. I was kind of shocked when i looked for prizes on the internet xD

They're losing popularity here, and as they become less common, they only get costlier.

Wow! Hat Canary! Lovely! Although I like the standard one or red factor more.

But be careful if you are going to let canary contacts with the finches. Canary is quite aggressive and male can be territorial and hurts the smaller finches.

I know several people with canaries and finches together without problems and the man I bought him from housed both together. They'll never share a cage, only a free-flight room, so I'm sure it will be fine. The Java finches are definitely bigger bullies than the canary could be, I think, and even they get along with their little cousins with that much space.

Well, what I have heard is that Java has less aggression than canary. :P

Maybe some individual are less meanie than the others or the ones that are kept with finchs are females.

To be honest, I've never heard of a canary that's aggressive to other birds (besides other canaries during breeding season). It's likely that Thai and American canary lines are different in temperament, and individual birds do vary. Everything I've seen and read of canaries with finches says they're very gentle birds - Steve's parents were living with zebra and society finches and nobody was fighting, so hopefully he's just as docile.
