I'd say,if keeping budgies and finches, to only get male budgies because females are normally feistier. ;)

Thank you for the set, Azrael!

Back on the topic of my pets, I purchased another betta today, a typical red one, to keep me company in a planted fishbowl on my (new) desk.

Now, it's generally recommended not to keep them in bowls, but I've kept over half a dozen in bigger heated aquariums and their lifespans have honestly been pathetic; my oldest lived 5 months. I have friends, however, who've kept theirs alive for 5 years or more in bowls, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I still have my other betta in my big fishtank, and he seems okay, but he does get tossed around by the current a lot and looks rather worse for wear. So far, my new fish in his calm, quiet bowl seems quite content, and I'll be sure to change the water every day. I do now wonder which will live longer.

Rat snake is love... Rat snake is life

I like Henry! He is gorgeous!

Make me think of Cyan... I haven't got any new betta since his death.... (*Look at Pixie.* YOU! WICKED CONVICT!!!)

Next time I think I have to get more substrate, so that incident will not happen again.

(x They are so cute. Are both the spices girls or is one a boy because I you thought they were girls from the start but I have a vague memory of you saying that you discovered that one is/might be a boy?

Yeah, I determined Nutmeg is a male. Lately he's gotten comfortable enough and sings every morning.

Cool. More babehs. If you have nesting boxes for a couple of pairs, then it's best to have a couple extra than they need of the same size at the same height to avoid fighting :D

I don't think the spices will ever breed. They don't generally pair up in small groups like mine, even if the males will sing. Usually you only find they breed in big aviaries with a lot of partners to choose from. But we'll see as my two do look really happy.

I do have two nests available but considering how the birds love to all huddle into the one if they ever do breed I think they'd just share it. Finches generally don't mind sharing.

NNNWWAAAAAZ! too cute! :adowable:
the finches are so adorable, and the fishbowl looks really cool. :) And Robbie, of course Hamikins will recommend a budgie xD if you want an unbiased opinion, I think Sheather is definitely the way to go xD

No, unbiasedly they are equal. Just because they're a little bigger doesn't mean they are harder to keep.

I'm not really biased, I have only experience with the two species of finches I have now. I've never kept any others. :P

Also that poor cactus I've put in their cage, Errol keeps eating it! I mean, it's harmless, but he's nibbled away like half of every leaf. Poor thing won't be growing much with him. xD
