Well, hello hello hello! This last month's been quite a slow one, but we're still kicking! We've got quite a bit going on, what with Marathon II and the Halloween events, and we've got quite a bit to go. But seeing as the previous newsletter was only 2 weeks ago, there isn't much to talk about.

Events are still running, and there's a lot coming up, but right now, we're talking newsletters, so sit back, relax, and read on!

We've got quite a bit going on this month in the ZT2 community! Marathon II and the Halloween Party are talked about extensively throughout the rest of the newsletter, but we have to mention them. Marathon II is booming, with the teams reaching their ultimate goal ever so closer. The event ends at the end of November, so we're about halfway through, but boy is there much to come.

For the Halloween Party, we've got quite a bit, including contests, games, a new theme, pointie animals, and more! So stay tuned and keep your eyes on alert. You never know what you might miss. *hint hint*

Unfortunately, seeing as there is quite a short time between this newsletter and the previous one, there are no new contest results available. However, there are some that are going on, such as the Spooky Stories contest, which you can still sign up for. But prepare for next month, as we've got loads of contests brewing.

The month of November is a great month for us since the Halloween Party and the Marathon are reaching their climaxes. And with that come a couple of new features for y'all to enjoy! First of all, we've got a bunch of new pointie animals, and while some are permanent, others are going away soon! So hut hut hut.

We've also got ourselves a new theme created by our wonderful admin, Danny. This theme, entitled 'Midnight Green', puts you right in the middle of all the spookiness Halloween has to offer, and brings an awesome new color palette to the Table. It's also brought us a new animal banner, with a bat that I've personally named Mr. Finkle. So, enjoy!

[anchor]spotlight[/anchor]Posted ImageInterviewed by: Myrtle Snow

This month, our talent of the month is the lovely and wonderful Eryel! Eryel is a fabulous ZT2 designer, with amazing skins and a very down-to-earth attitude, which is why we chose to interview her this month

1. When and how did you first become involved in the ZT community?

I guess that I started like everyone, hehe. Appearing like a ninja, downloading everything on the forum, and disappearing in silence... When I discovered and joined ZooHispania (They were really fun times… Almost everybody thought that I was a boy! XD), I decided by chance to participate in a design contest, then I began to meet people, learn new things about designing, discover new communities, and make me more active gradually. After a time I started a project topic at anglophone's forums too, first on Gaia, but I moved to TRT a short time after opened :P

2. When did you start designing and what was your first project?

Maybe two years ago on Northern Skies, after lots of time making attempts at skinning, I finally had the courage to show my first works. They were a mountain gorilla reskin, a Przewalski's wild horse remake made with the AD zebra as a base and a 'Walking With Dinosaurs' iguanodon attempt that was never completed... I really didn't like my work at that time, and stopped designing for a while. Some months after I discovered ZooHispania, I presented myself and and after some thought, I joined a bat design contest. That was where I started designing seriously. So despite having some things made from before, I consider my first real project the Tenerife long-eared bat.

3. How has the community changed you as a person? Have you allowed it to?

The community has allowed me to meet people from almost every spot in the world... It's hard to believe but some of my best friends live a thousands of miles away from me and I've met them thanks to communities. I spend long hours a day chatting, speaking about ZT and his world and designing together. I learned all of what I know from ZT design at communities as well. The ZT world has enriched me with friends, knowledge, hundreds of histories to talk about and enjoy and not less important... an improved english (I know, my english it's not so good as I'd like it to be, but you should have listened to me two years ago... uffff!! XD),

I don't imagine designing without the communities. I've lived good histories and some not so, but the good always ends up weighing much, much more and made me return one and another time ;)

4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?

There is a saying: Home is where the heart is. But I have a traveler's heart... There are so many places in the world that take my breath away only thinking how it could be there, if only for a moment: cities, mountains, deserts, jungles...I wish I could take my backpack and visit every one almost one time in my life, leaving nothing to see in this world.

5. What are your favorite animals?

Seahorses. They aren't the most beautiful, powerful or mighty animals on the wild... but they have a special sense for me. There was a fishing tradition in my family, anything bad for the wild, but sometimes uncontrollable, I lived maybe all my life near the Mediterranean sea on a fisher's town specially nature-conscious. Some day when I was little, someone gifted me a dried seahorse that was caught accidentally on his nets and told me to take care of it by all of its kind that still remained in the sea. I still keep it, it reminds me of that person, that passed away a long time ago, the delicacy of nature and the place I belong.

6. When did you develop your love for animals?

I don't remember myself without developed love for animals… I love animals, nature and general wildlife since I have memory, when little I wanted to be veterinarian, paleontologist, forest keeper, ocean scientist and I don't-know-how-more-things, all at the same time... XD

...But I'm afraid of spiders... I love them... But they scare me... Dichotomic spiders, arg ¬¬

7. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Weeeell... I guess I grew up some years ago... (I am twenty-something, the exact age of a lady is secret!! XD) I have two design careers, as editorial illustrator and as graphic designer. I have worked as publicist on a large company so far. I’ve always loved drawing and designing things, so, I'm really happy of my choice, work and experiences ^^

8. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I'm definitely a night owl... In fact I'm writing this at 3:27 AM, and I'm tempted to see some movie when I finish, or maybe another dinner, or some drawing, or some designing... I'll improvise... Thank you very much for reading, hope you enjoy and spend a good time with me! ^^

Eryel had this to show us! It's a new project of hers, the Columbian mammoth. You can find her projects thread here.

There haven't been many changes to the staff roster this month. Farkle is now a VIP and Flish is a member, each for their own reasons. Azrael has triumphantly returned as an admin. Overall, this is the current staff roster:

Danny
Azrael
Chalicotherium
Imp
Furka
Franco
Sheather
Crookedjaw
Hudson
zoocrazy
Umpaloompa
Snoopy
Myrtle Snow

Halloween:
The staff has worked hard on preparing and introducing the many Halloween events in tha last couple of days. Overall, I think we did a pretty good job. You can also go and play this game and find out more about the staff, while earning some pointies to go with it.

Hello! I am this month's news reporter, Flower. We've been going through theis awesome month with two very special events, the Marathon II and the Halloween Party. The Marathon II theme is Biomes, and every participant is trying their best to win this awesome competition. It includes the encouraging spirit of each team leader and the hard work they are doing for the win. This special event is very widespread since more or less everybody knows about this, but what we don't know is who's going to win. Aren't you curious?

We shouldn't forget the most successful ZT2-based zoo business simulation of the forum. That's right, it's the RTZI . To spruce up the RTZI , the Managers have decided to "dress-up" themselves with the special festival, Halloween. The contestants have to build up an exhibit complex for the RTZI, with "creepy" creatures.

The staff have come up with awesome new contests for the Halloween Party. There is the Halloween dress-up party, the Pick a Pumpkin Game, and the Spooky stories writing contests. It's not too late to participate too. So hurry up! The Halloween Party has been enlightened with a special new Halloween theme, which is entitled "Midnight Green"! You should try that out too!

And lastly, for the Halloween Party, the forum has got some awesome pointie animals. Check them out here.

General

The ocelot is a solitary nocturnal feline with an extensive range. They mark their territories via urine spraying. An ocelot's territory is usually fairly small, but some males have very large territories. The ocelot is a fiercely territorial feline. It is also referred to as the dwarf leopard. It is currently listed as a Least Concern species. The main color of the ocelot is a tawny brown. They usually have white underbellies, and many black rosettes and spots across their fur. They also have distinctive white marks on the ears.

Habitat

The ocelot ranges all the way from South America, through Central America, and they even inhabit as far North as southern Texas and rarely in Arizona. In the southern portions of its range, the ocelot can be found in rain-forests and mangrove swamps/ Ocelots need cover and vegetation in their habitat. In northern areas, they can rarely be found in rocky scrublands.

Diet

An ocelot's diet is quite varied. They mainly hunt prey much smaller than themselves, such as rodents like agoutis or other small mammals like rabbits. The ocelot will supplement this with birds, small reptiles, and even fish.

Threats

The ocelot's main threats are unfortunately from humans. poachers sometimes hunt them to sell their beautiful coats. Deforestation and destruction of habitat also threaten the ocelot as they remove its territory and hunting grounds it needs to survive and thrive.

Weight & Length

The ocelot is roughly 68 to 100 centimeters (27 to 39 in) in length, along with about 26 to 45 centimeters (10 to 18 in) in tail length. Ocelots typically weighs 8 to 18 kilograms (18 to 40 lb), but individuals of larger size have been found.

ZT2 Animal Guidelines

Ingame, the ocelot will do well with a medium sized, densely planted exhibit. A roof or some kind of net above the enclosure would be good as they are excellent climbers and jumpers. A small pool for drinking and climbing structures would also be enjoyable additions to the ocelot's enclosure.

An ocelot has been made for ZT2. It can be found in one of the Fauna del Mundo packs located at ZooHispania.

[anchor]questions[/anchor]Posted ImageInterviewed by: Myrtle Snow

This month, we interviewed three fabulous new members: Oviraptor, BenZooMaster, and our own Snoopy! Read on to see what they had to say.

Personal

Where is your favorite place to visit during the holidays?

It highly depends on the weather. I would usually actually not go anywhere during the holidays and just stay at home in a familiar and warm environment, however when I do leave I usually just visit my relatives. (I'm the most exciting person in the world ._. ) ~BenZooMaster

Florida. I can escape from the cold Indiana weather! ~Oviraptor

Are you doing/did you do anything for Halloween?

Of course, I made a zombie-themed pumpkin. ~Oviraptor

I had a party, but I'm probably going to scare my siblings. I'd go Trick or Treating if I find a good costume. ~Snoopy

Do you prefer salty food, or do you have a sweet tooth?

I personally prefer slightly salty foods over sweet, though often it depends on what I'm eating, if I'm eating a simple meal I will most likely adorn it with salt, if it's a much larger meal I will usually mix both salt and sweet flavours. (Though in all honesty I'm the kind of person who would eat everything) ~BenZooMaster

I'll try almost any food once, but I am more of a sweet tooth. ~Snoopy

Nature

What animals do you see in your daily life or around the neighborhood?

Most often I actually see Magpies more than any other animal, most animals around here are of the domesticated kind be it live stock or peoples pets, the only other signs that there is any actual natural life is the occasional corpse of a badger. ~BenZooMaster

Foxes, robins, crows, white-tailed deer, and red squirrels are among the native cast of characters. ~Oviraptor

Which biome would you like to live in, if given the chance?

Hmm... I would most likely enjoy living in a slightly arid biome I would think, I'm unsure which, but I know that I would prefer living in a slightly hotter climate as opposed to my current one here in the UK. ~BenZooMaster

Probably Coastal. I like the fact that it can never get extremely cold or extremely hot. Plus the ecosystem and habitat can bring you extraordinarily close to nature. ~Snoopy

What are your thoughts about wild animal domestication?

I personally do not mind it, as the dominant species on this planet we technically have the right to do as we please with what is before us. However, I do not think we humans fully understand that not all species can be tamed on the same level as most domestic cats and dogs and that there will almost always be a danger with attempting to raise a wild animal for domestication. ~BenZooMaster

I, personally, am against most of it. I am against the private ownership of primates, monkeys, big cats, bears, elephants, gators, and other large exotics. I feel that some animals are better left in the wild. I wouldn't be happy if I was kept in a small cage my whole life that wasn't even close to my home range. There can be exceptions out there I suppose, but I think animals are far more beautiful in the wild than in captivity. ~Snoopy

Community

Since joining the community, when have you been the most active and why?

Probably when NS first emerged. Aurora Designs was there at the time, and I could make my first realistic zoo. ~Oviraptor

I think I was most active on Northern Skies. Just because. I didn't have any particular reason. A tip for new members: Never become overly active. You won't get to enjoy the outside world as much! ~Snoopy

Why did you decide to join the community and contribute to it, rather than just lurking for downloads?

Because I wanted to design and share my projects. It's as simple as that, though my beginings were far from good as when I first started a design topic I attempted to pass off some other models from a 3D site as my own (Oh god I was hugely young and nieve then ._. ), of course these days I no longer design in ways that people can see being mostly a rigger and therefore more of a background designer than say someone who meshes or skins. ~BenZooMaster

My first forum I was really a part of was Environ. Everyone there was really friendly, and it had a good atmosphere. ~Oviraptor

Which forum do you most frequent (spam forum; blog corner; etc.)?

It would have to be a tie between the Design Projects and the RTZI Zoos. I love to see what everyone else is creating! ~Oviraptor

The RTZI and Zoo Tycoon 2 sections are where I am most active here. I love seeing how people inspire one another with their work in building zoos. It is what the game is all about. It's my favorite part of the community. ~Snoopy

The Animal Encyclopedia

Because of the recent inactivity of the forums, possibly from school and other work, there have been a few neglected sections that we'd love to see you guys contribute to. Most of all, we'd like to see some new factsheets for the Animal Encyclopedia. Zoocrazy, our encyclopedia manager, has done an amazing job of organizing and creating the factsheets, but we'd love to have some member contributions.

The Animal encyclopedia is a massive project, encompassing all aspects of animals and dinosaurs. We have a pretty extensive list of animals already, but it's going to take a while to finish up, so getting a helping hand from you guys would be amazing. So come on, get your research skills ready, crack your knuckles, and get typing!

Interested in helping out the forum? Well there are several things you can do to help us out!

1. Join the Newsletter Team! All the above posts were written this month, and next month you could be one of the writers! Post in the Staff PM Box and tell us what you would like to do, and we'll get you into something.
2. Report stuff. If you see something that is against the site rules, then just click that little report button so that we can see it ASAP. We can't be everywhere at once, so the sooner you let us know about it the better
3. Assist. If you see someone who needs help, has a question, or isn't following the rules, kindly help them out if you can. Often times a staff will still follow up behind you, but we always appreciate seeing members helping each other out.
4. Be active. The more you post, and make topics, the more others can post and that will open more doors for you to post!
5. Be friendly. PM people, welcome people, and be patient with everyone, especially newer members. Remember, if you're kind to people, its very likely they'll be kind to you
6. Submit Downloads. We have a nice download center so we mine as well get as many downloads as we can in it. We also have good download managers, so we had mine as well keep them busy too
7. Offer your help in the Staff PM Box. Let us know if you are available and we may just have something for you that would take a lot of pressure off of us.
