Here I am with my turtles again xD
Well, I decided to look up exactly what species they are. Turns out they are Chinese pond turtles. That's an endangered specie from China! I'm really surprised. I just have no idea how these two came to Sweden.

We saw an ad that someone gave away to turtles with aquarium and everything just for free. I thought it would be fun so I went and got them. The woman who had them seemed to just want to get rid of them, she didn't even ask me my name. She just gave them to me and drove off. Now I'm wondering, maybe they are illegally imported to Sweden or something? Maybe they are stolen?

Does anyone have any experience with this specie?

well, chinese pond turtles are protected specie in China, Japan , Korea and Taiwan, so it is USUALLY not involved in pet trade. But from what I know about my uncle's licensed pond turtles is that they need a license to be kept if they are the pure species, or if they are involved in pet trade, then you can have them only with the expense of money :)

I could be wrong also, and maybe that lady was in some problem with the turtle.... I hope that they are artificially bred ones........

My best idea would be to ask the help of a trusted person who could have experience on the matter (your trusted vet, a friend that works with animal rescues ...), if you know someone like that.

Beware of Crapstel's Curse!

What Furka said and search the internet and try to find out if they're even a protected species in your country. Since just because they're a protected species in one country doesn't mean they're one in another as well...you aren't even allowed to keep/trade San Francisco Garter Snakes in the US for example but they've no protection status whatsoever here.

So I've been looking all over internet for information. I couldn't really find any info if they are illegal in Sweden.. It seems they are rare but I found some other people who had this specie too.

But I've been taking care of these two turtles totally wrong! They need lots of water plants, mud, caves, large land area and sand to dig in to. I'm going to the pet store later, I'll ask if they know anything about the specie, and I'll buy lots of new equipment to the aquarium. Hopefully I'll have two happy boys later! :)
