Type of Exhibit:
Aye-Ayes are usually kept in a nocturnal exhibit. In the exhibit, it is light at night and dark at day, so the visitors can see nocturnal animals in their most active state. The exhibit should contain a lot of logs and ropes, because the Aye-aye is largely an arboreal animal and does not get on the ground very often. The indoor exhibit should be heated to prevent them from getting cold. Aye-Ayes are recommended for outdoor housing in areas with the same climate as Madagascar.

Temperament:
Aye-Ayes are generally very tolerable towards humans, however this varies from individual to individual.

Diet:
Wild: The Aye-Aye is an omnivorous primate, and feeds on insect larvae, interior of the ramy nut, nectar and fungi
Captivity: Fruits, insects and vegetables.

Social Needs:
Wild: They are one of the few primates living solitary, only together when mating.
Captivity: In captivity they are usually kept in seperate exhibits.

Extra Information:
  • Aye-ayes are the largest nocturnal primates.
  • The first captive-born Aye-aye was named Blue devil.
  • Aye-ayes can live up to be 26 years old.
  • They are killed in Madagascar by locals because they are believed to be related to death and misfortune.
