Elephants actually are overcrowded in several African parks, though they could probably transfer said elephants to more sparsely populated areas rather than kill them. |

problem is, moving an elephant is very difficult and expensive, and let's not talk about moving A HERD of them. because of that, it's not always an option available everywhere. |

So the option is killing them? Sorry Furka but can't agree with that. If another option is avaible that won't cause harm on the animals, then that should be the way to go, no matter how expensive it is. |

Don't even have to read the topic but just the last posts lol Basically I agree with furka, sometimes animals have to be culled for the benefit of the species. There are some really irrational & irrealistic opinions around here... |

Well i don't support the hunting of endangered species under any circumstance, i don't care if it is irrealistic. |

If it's impossible (economically or ecologically), then it cannot be done. It doesn't matter whether you think it shouldn't be done or not. We don't want thousands of African people starving because their government moved a couple hundreds (if even that much, don't know about the actual costs) elephants to another region. And even then, shouldn't we look at the other circumstances? Why are there little elephants in that other area? Because they were poached heavily? I wouldn't move them then. Because the environment changed a lot (for example, due to human activity in the area)? Wouldn't move them either, or at least not unless it's (economically) possible for the country to undo the changes. I am also against the culling of elephants or whatever endangered animal, but in some cases, it is simply not possible to avoid it. Edited by Stephen, Nov 25 2013, 02:01 PM.

There is not much money in (most) african governments, so the people are starving anyway, but that's not the point

Anyway, when people say hunting prevents man-eaters, they're just a bunch of trollers. Why consider lions game animals when they just have to put down (maybe even relocate) one cat. |

Generally, little to no trust can or should be put into any African government. Not only are they generally low on money, most often they are also corrupt as hell and filled to the brim with incompetent and idiotic people. That is unfortunately the reality of the African continent. It is a very difficult continent in many respects. I suspect that it is the same with the use of natural resources and ecosystem services, wildlife being an example of that. |

Who else is sick of the stupid conservation lies that hunters make up? |

Well, not all of them are "lies." You can conserve a species by making sure that incest and stuff like that is impossible. That could be done by either moving some of the species, or shooting them. This might sound cruel and don't get me wrong, I'm not into POACHING but HUNTING is sometimes necessary. And there is a great difference between hunting and poaching, but people sometimes seem to forget that. Poaching is, in my opinion, illegally killing certain animals. Hunting is legally killing a certain animal to; Prevent incest, for trophies or for the meat. |

I see your point, but the only time it's actually necessary is when a population of things like deer or rabbits needs to be controlled, and when someone is in Desperate need of resources.

uh, no, you can easily hunt an animal if the population allows it, the rules are well planned and you try to use the most of that animal. going by your logic, we shouldn't stop poaching of elephants and rhinos, because the people who do that are in desperate need of resources. |
