You obviously didn‘t, though it follows your requirements perfectly. Really, I don‘t see a way out. Development aid at this moment doesn‘t offer much long-term profits for the people (except those micro credits, but those are small scale). It‘s too slow as well. Forbidding rhino horn trade has happened and I haven‘t seen much happening. Opening the trade on the other hand is risky and could wipe out quite a few species immediately.

As much as I hate to admit it, Stephen has a point. At the moment, we haven't yet found a perfect way out of these issues.

I don't understand what Stephen means, the point I'm trying to make is that killing an endangered species is not in any way saving it.

Speaking about the rhino horn - it's a completely useless resource, consumption of which is fueled by myth and legends. It causes no more effect than cow hooves or our own fingernails.
Somebody at last should get involved in black market trade (feds do this sometimes to get the evidence), sneak in warehouses and poison the horn products, so the people (mostly Asians) consuming this will die in agony instead of 'mating like rhinos' as they want to - that's the only fate such people deserve, for their cavemen-like beliefs.

and plus, it wasn't even worth killing the lion. there was nothing to gain from it.
WUT? Nothing to gain from Simba?
Here's what you can get, besides the thrill and pics:
-a mount (full-body in any pose, down to subtle details like tiny spines on the tongue and saliva drops, veins in the eyes & under skin), or a rug, or a trophy head with rest of skin used for crafts;
-meat (felines are edible if they're healthy and you know how to cook'em, I ate bobcat and it was good)
-impressive skeleton to articulate, just treat the bones right, boiling makes them bad!
-a pair of big beautiful eyes wet-preserved in a jar - they even keep the reflective ability;
-necklace of claws (mounts can use artificial claws or be with retracted ones, and for skeleton just a bony part of claw is needed while thick sharp keratine layer can be easily put off - I have one amputated from a living lioness!);
-tendons & guts for crafts;
-lungs, trachea and stomach can be processed into dog treats - and they love'em;
-and some cool big parasites to marvel at, like flatworms, if the lion was not that healthy :)

You will respect my authoratah.

Yes, but most of those things we don't need. But of course the people in poorer countries, on the other hand, do need these to feed their family.

If you don't need something that doesn't mean it's not worth having!
Personally I would like to get a whole lion, but one without a bullet hole that mean damaged bones - just freshly-dead or euthanized. It becomes inedible in last case though.
Natives usually can't even skin the animal properly, making many useless cuts which ruin the skin's quality. The stuff they offer to sell is usually quite bad, e.g. boiled skulls with damaged bones and blood & grease stains.
Those who help on safaris undergo special training but still sometimes make mess.

The sum raised by game reserve for hunting license, insurance, service, trophy preparation and export license for 1 lion can exceed the profit that any zoo raises for its development out of a lifetime exhibit of 1 lion (which constantly sleeps backwards to the visitors as well).
The same zoo often destroys the lion after death because preserving him is too expensive, and the vets should make autopsy accurately which often is too complicated for them.

Eating a lion is just nasty and sick.

They actually are poisoning rhino horns.

Yes, carnivores can have a nasty taste if not cooked properly.
And eating cows is right because there's no DIsney movie 'Cattle King' :)

What would you think about hunting & eating a T-Rex if such opportunity appears?
It must taste like chicken. Or like gator.

Problem is, if we hunt and eat T. rex (the correct name instead of T-Rex), it can retaliate by doing the same to us. xD
