Was pointed to this by samuel, and the more I thought about it the more neccessary it seemed: The current animations available simply do not fit small birds. Figured I'd start this as a side project doing some anims here and there whenever I feel like it. (I'd rather do a proper snake cuz that would be even more "needed", but I need to find a way to get anims from blender 2.6 to 2.49b first because it would use the spline IK which is only available there while the nifscripts are only for 2.49b... Also a lizard would be interesting, but if I start like that I could remake anything xD) So the bird should move and behave just like a real bird, what do we need for that? Basic stuff of course, like a good wing rig (why did BF make it so damn ugly and complicated??)... Then what anims Moving: and the assorted blends -Hopping/Jumping -Walking -Flying Standing Calling Singing Mating Turning Drowning Wing & plumage cleaning Sleeping the following always with those nervous looks inbetween Eating Pecking & scratching the floor Drinking Dustbath That's basically it, any more suggestions? Whenever I start it, I'd probably base it on blackbirds because they're awesome and easy to observe Don't start proposing behaviours like perching cuz that's a different story

I love this idea Hendrix! This will be such a revolution in the bird's design for the game. I wish you luck with this proyect and i can't wait to see the progresses. I like your other ideas too (snake and lizard animations are much needed too), but i think the birds are priority like you said. I think the set of animation that you think so far is perfect. I can't think of anything else, except maybe climbing and perching in branches and trees. |

Perching and climbing are merely behaviours while the animations that are performed are standing & walking, just elevated.

How about an animated nest with eggs and nestlings and feeding animations - or simply a reverse version of the eating - for the parents. It's very strange for young small birds to run around or even fly. That's something I had on my mind for a long time, so I'm very thankful someone is finally making an effort in it and seeing it in your able hands is making me happy

Awesome idea this'll surely be revolutionary!!! Here's a good suggestion (not a request) what about when an eagle swoops down and grabs? Not sure if that's a behavior or not though.

I am glad that you there been interested in animation for small birds, does not know how happy I am that you realized and it is animations secretary not fit for small birds such as sparrows, finches, and many other small birds or medium plus flight animations are terribly appalling and animations peacock not fit for these birds I wish you luck in this project, and many other people who love small birds will thank a lifetime

How about flying from tree to tree instead of walking to each dang tree. |

I think you need to sit better first to create all the basic bird animations like walking flying eating drinking ect, once you have these things working ingame you can think of other aggregates, besides that behavior varies according to the species, for example, the Rufous baker spend all day on earth while the sparrows are long in the trees |

You aint gonna get 2.6 to 2.49, none of the file formats available for both support animation export sadly. good luck though, I made it possible to edit animations, nice to see somebody finally willing to put in the hard work to make a new animation set that's needed finally

I like the idea!! My suggestions with examples: Woodpecker knocking on tree to find food. The kingfisher and Gannet fishing. Fly in swarm like Common Starling. Swallows fly.. Move on tree like Nuthatch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PS_maCZHbY http://ibc.lynxeds.com/video/white-breasted-nuthatch-sitta-carolinensis/bird-moving-down-tree-trunk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhHO9RRd5Cw http://ibc.lynxeds.com/video/red-breasted-nuthatch-sitta-canadensis/bird-moving-tree In the beak .Puffin could grab more than one fish. some special nest like an nest making: bee eater making burrow Burrowing Owl burrows Weaver nest Eurasian Penduline Tit nest Swallow nest Rufous Hornero nest And fighting between males like blackbirds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d528W9WHK6M Edited by Rudyn, Nov 26 2013, 10:20 PM.

I would almost want no walking just jumping, I have never seen a finch walk, only hop and fly. I would be cute if they were able to fluff up when they sleep, but I think that would be quite hard. Rudyn the woodpecker already has pecking on tree abilities But I agree with less ground action and more flight, and flocking is needed. Edited by Whalebite, Nov 26 2013, 08:41 PM.

This is a great idea! I always feel awkward to see those finches and other small birds walking and even running around. |
