Just when I thought it'll never happen,

DM goes ahead and makes it happen. xD

I appreciate that you're making new animations for birds, it's something the game really lacked. :)

Just a question. Do you think these animations would be appropriate for certain dinosaurs, like Microraptor?

That would be cool in my opinion, would love to see smaller dinosaurs coded more like birds.

Now I'm kinda curious how you're going to do the perching, as many birds grab the branches with their toes :P
I'll ignore that matter and give the perching behaviours stand anims, as it would hardly be visible anyway and it would increase the required anim amount a lot. ;)
For small passerines it may be justified, and their feet often sink into perches :)
But macaw-sized and larger birds will look weird with stiff toes...
so may the finger bones can be added for large birds? Or the current anim set is for smaller species only?

There'll be no foot-walking! Just air-flying!

Guys dinosaurs are related to birds, but that doesn't mean that you can use the same animations :P Next to the fact that they move differently, they would need a different type of tail nodes and tail anims to make it look realistic really :P One anim for all won't give you good and realistic results

@Whalebite : you can code dinosaurs like small birds, you don't need to have new anims for that, you can even do the behaviours with the current set of anims ;)

macaws don't move the same way as sparrows and such.
plus, they already look small ingame, so i doubt it would be noticeable.

A good solution is usage of artificial perches where the bird may sit on with stiff toes.

Unless when you're taking screens and go for a close up :P Then it would be very noticeable ;)

Many players (not me!) just don't observe smaller critters up close, they're happy with dinos at bird's eye view. And they don't bother if some details are absent/incorrect since it's on the small scale.
While the efforts put into small animals are no less worth it than in megafauna.

You could definitely use the anims for smaller raptors. I think they would really suit them, the skeleton fits perfectly. After all, we don't know how they moved. ;)

Imagine something like this move around like a bird and it's really plausible ;)

Raptor/bird leg proportions weren't the same, raptor tails were much longer and had a wider range of movement, plus IIRC, raptor arms couldn't fold as much as those of the birds. :)

I thought Dromaeosaurids and troodontids could fold their arms, they had a special bone in the wrist also present in birds enabling them a wider range of movement ;)

I think this is one of the main reasons why we have muscles studies, to see how they might have moved ? xD We shouldn't overestimate what we know, but we shouldn't underestimate our knowledge either :p

Well, we know how they could have moved, but we don't know how they really did. I can't think of any evidence why they shouldn't hop around like birds. ;)

Trackways of dromaeosauridae indicate they were walkers/runners, not hoppers, I don't see how it proves they should hop ._.
