Where is the big problem? Couldn't it be possible that big dromaeosaurids - velo and up - as they most probably lived terrestrial, walked and behaved much like mostly terrestrial birds like Secretary bird or ostrich and small dromaesaurids like microraptor that could have been mostly tree dwelling moved much like todays smaller tree dwelling birds?

The big problem is calling small bird anims universal for paravians, which they are not :P

They are as universal for paravians as they are for for all of today's birds. ;)

Look up the definition of paravian. Look up the diversity of modern day birds and extinct paravians. I'm not going to debate statement saying that a sparrow moves just like a cassowary.

~

Unless you're saying that we have dromaeosaurids, troodontids and basal avialans that move exactly like the birds DM bases his anims off, which would be nice to have examples of ;)

The dinosaur topic, remember...?

So got the rough model done, and the wings can be posed to fold pretty well. The feathers seem to align quite nicely already, but I will try to perfect it once I have the skin done.

@Mr. Gorsh: Look at the little ;) behind my post, that was not a serious statement. Just wanted to say that there is NOT one universal movement type for either extinct or recent paravians!
Did not want to get you agitated there, so I'm sorry for that.

With all due respect, DM, I wouldn't be trying to clarify this, if you two weren't trying to convince that the skeleton/anims of your bird fits for other paravians perfectly :P

That said, the update looks convincing :)

I'm not saying it fits perfectly, I'm just saying it could be used for small raptors and associated animals. Because the general anatomy is very similiar, even if the wings don't fold as much.

You could definitely use the anims for smaller raptors. I think they would really suit them, the skeleton fits perfectly. After all, we don't know how they moved. ;)
Ehm.

Nevermind, I see where it's going and I'm not really fond of it, so I'm out of here :P

Guys leave this discussion to the dinosaur's topics (again)

The update looks amazing DM. Nice model, and the new wings folding looks much better. I hope you make a couple of small birds with this new skeleton and animations :3

yes it does. i said the skeleton fits perfectly, not the pose. the skeleton is probably even better suited to raptors than the vanilla raptor nodes.

Looks very impressive so far! The separate alphas for primaries & secondaries seem to be a good idea.
How will the texture behave in folded wing?
And will the tail feathers be moveable, e.g. stretch while landing?
