of course you are. even hunters feel bad for the animals they kill, deep inside them, trust me. |

every hunter feels sorry when killing an animal (except maybe mosquitoes). it's part of the feelings hunting gives you. if you feel nothing when you kill the animal, better stop hunting. |

On the bright side, at least lions don't over populate

I haven't really looked into the population of lions and other large cats in these reserves, but it's true that I've never heard anything about a lion population too large for the ecosystem. So if it happens, it must at least be rarer than elephants overpopulating. |

that happens because lions are more territorial than elephants: they actively force other lions to move away from their territories, and those who don't are killed. however if a country has a good population of lions (which i think only Tanzania has) i don't see why limited hunting should be forbidden (especially if some lions have learned to hunt people). |

The thing is why hunt lions? Why hunt them when it isn't really necessary at all? Also the best way to deal with a man-eater is by relocating them.

SlenderRex, remember that nature is cruel itself, and it's our job as we humans to control and balance the ecosystems. Sometimes, lives may have to be costed just to even out species. Please, take our advice. |

as Crook already said, relocating man eaters would not solve the problem. also, who do you think will take a man eating lion ? and i'm not talking about a single problematic lion, but a whole population (as lions teach their hunting techniques to other lions, and now there are prides of them that hunt farmers). not to mention that man eaters often have injuries that enable them to hunt normal preys (that's why they hunt people) and relocating them would be equal to killing them. |

Well if it's that much of a problem can't they just have rangers put them down, I've seen a program where rangers have done it before. |

but rangers often use traps which end up killing leopards, hyenas and other predators that were not involved in the attacks. plus, hunters provide a certain income to the reserves. |

I have to agree with the others. The perfect utopia you're envisioning just isn't plausible, Slender. I don't agree with hunting either, but I guess in some cases it just has to be done.
