I'm not ignoring it, I'm just saying that hunting isn't inherently bad so long as we don't overdo it.

To those people who say taking pleasure in hunting is bad : why would someone hunt, except if they're starving or dealing with an environmental problem, if they don't take pleasure in it ? |

IMHO, they shouldn't if it wasn't for either of those reasons. Taking pleasure in hunting (with a gun, that is, which is unfair towards the animals who are hunted) is not entirely mentally healthy. |

If they eat the animal, then I think it's fine. Though I don't hunt, I do enjoy fishing, and I eat the fish I catch rather than hang them over my fireplace.

I don't mean taking pleasure in the act of killing. I mean taking pleasure in the act of hunting, which means researching about your target, learn about their behaviours, track them, and act so as to surprise them. Shooting something from a car with a gun is plain idiotic. |

Banned for being rude.

Mabye the reason I'm so against lion and elephant hunting is because I thought that nature didn't intend that. |

Well, I don't condone elephant or lion hunting unless it is necessary, which means cases of overpopulation, man-eating, or damage caused to property. |

Technically nature doesn't intend anything. Ecosystems don't work as a structured thinking/decision-making process. But the fact that these species are endangered DOES suggest that we should cut back on hunting them. |

i don't think Trophy hunting can cause a decline in a whole population, since only a few individuals are targeted. If anything, it may cause elephants to hav smaller tusks and things like those, but a decline in a whole population ? i doubt. poaching is more likely to be blamed for that. |

So the possible options for elephants are: Establishing a game ranch. Breeding elephants here. Giving them enough minerals to grow large tusks. After the years, it's time for naturally occurring surplus bulls to be sold at auction, then hunters who purchased the tags shoot them with tranq overdose (no suffering, clean shot as well, though the eles will be inedible) and then fun part (mounting) begins. Partially sarcasm. We already have 'green hunting', which becomes a real hunting in unlucky circumstances. And, why not feeding wild elephants with mineral supplements in regions where natural sources are scarce, so they would have better-looking incisors?

because that would attract more poachers to that area. and hunting just for mounting an animal makes no sense, especially if it's an endangered species. if you want to mount an elephant, go and buy a dead one from a zoo. |

But we do mount edible species, fish included ![]() I would like to have a stillborn elephant, it would fit the lab just right and won't make much mess... lots of them appear every year in captivity, just not in Russia. The only ones in our museums are dated by last century. Many zoo officials just don't understand the value of animals that died in controlled environment (wild ones in 99% are found rotten), and those beauties end up as fertilizer. However, they did justice to Knut in Berlin (stupid protesters) and Lin Wang in Taipei. |

WHAT. Just WHAT. In nature, elephants are hunted by lions. And, lions get killed too, usually getting injured from Cape buffalo, zebras, hippos, and elephants.
