I want a pet tarantula. Though I thought I heard somewhere that they weren't actually true spiders.

Partially true. Tarantulas are part of Mygalomorphae, burrowing spiders that rarely make webs. |

I used to be afraid of those stingers, but it came out they're afraid of me even more Been stung by hornets, paper wasps, mammoth wasps, bumblebees, but never honeybees! It's so pleasant to catch big, fat hornets one by one as they try to escape in panic. A mammoth wasp is more impressive trophy, being far more harmless than hornet, it makes a nice pet. By catching it, you save cute rhino beetles from being eaten alive by wasp larvae! And bumblebes are just living plushies that don't like to be poked. ![]()

I don't scared of any animals, except wasps. And also flies & mosquitos. I'm not afraid with them but they're really annoying.

In childhood, I was afraid of mammoth wasps, grass snakes and stag beetles... all of them appeared to be cute & harmless after some experience. Sadly, I didn't manage to find a live stag beetle yet, only half-eaten

I'm probably mistaken. The only place I've heard this is from a keeper at my local zoo, and she seemed to be more of a reptile specialist so I guess she could've been wrong. |

How did you hold those bees and hornets, Elephas? Horseflies frighten me. Not a huge insect fan. |

Those are not mine pics, still I handled bumblebees a lot, and mammoth wasp only once. Bumblebees love honey, so even a wild untamed one would be sitting and feeding from your finger in minutes, if not being scared at first... And all males of stinging insects are completely harmless. When it comes to hornets, you put the wasp to sleep with carbon dioxide, then cut away a tip of stinger, when it wakes up it's completely safe. Edited by Elephas Maximus, Jan 7 2014, 07:46 AM.

Any large bird. I got chased by a large turkey as a kid. Dem things can beat the hell out of a velociraptor. So, I've been wary of every large bird I see. F***in turkeys. ![]() |
